ahuja amplifier story

 ahuja  amplifier story

In the 1940s, before India's independence, there was a young man with a keen interest in technology. Name is Amar Nath Ahuja. Amarnath belonged to a family that migrated to Delhi long before partition from Sindh province in present day Pakistan.
At the time when the freedom struggle was in full swing, loudspeakers started appearing in some rare public meetings. It was a time when the notices were printed separately stating that there would be loudspeakers to gather people for the meetings.
ndian mic set operators were using public address systems of foreign companies like Chicago Radio, Altec Lansing, Sure and Rolla.
Where there is loudspeaker, there is Amarnath. The 20-year-old became a regular presence at public meetings as an assistant to the mic operators. The mic operators welcomed the young man with a bit of technical knowledge who would help them without any expectation of reward.
After learning everything, Amarnath persuaded his father and acquired two old Chicago radio make tube  amplifiers, a few Trumpet horns  and one or two Sure mics and became a mic operator himself. The company was named Ahuja Sound Equipments.
The difficulties in this field began to be understood when Ahuja became a sound operator. At that time, transistors had not been popular. All amplifiers are of vacuum tube construction. They will get dameged  frequntly.
These foreign made amplifiers were not suitable for Indian conditions. In case of failure, repair parts have to be imported, and the parts are very expensive. Even if the parts are available, there are very few technicians to repair them.
Frustrated with not being able to complete the work undertaken due to the damage of the equipment, Amarnath decided to learn by himself how to troubleshoot the amplifiers in hand.
Amarnadh painstakingly organized the schematic diagrams of the amplifiers in hand and started studying them. The assistance of service engineers of amplifier companies who occasionally come from abroad was also sought for doubt clearing.
That service engineers teach Amarnadh how to quickly troubleshoot amplifiers using tools such as multimeters and signal injectors as they were used for troubleshooting.
Seeing Amarnath's interest in this, an engineer from Sure Company helped by providing multimeter and signal injector at a subsidized price.
With this, Amarnath acquired the experience of repairing the equipment of his own company without the help of anyone else.
With this, the reputation of Amarnadh who knows how to repair all his equipments has spread in the country. If you call Amar, it is guaranteed that the sound system will work without interruption.
There are only two amplifiers in total. If there is more , more works can be caught. VIP functions require two amplifiers. One for running and one for standby.
Decided not to buy the old one anymore. New amplifier will cost a lot of money. Anyway, Amarnath decided to use his repairing experience to make an amplifier.
Neither the cores nor the copper wire required to manufacture the transformers, an important component of the amplifier, were available in India. Through long correspondence, all the raw materials required for the manufacture of the amplifier were brought from Britain.
After taking apart, tinkering, modifying, and after many failures, Amarnath finally produced an amplifier suitable for Indian conditions. Thus, in 1942, the first Indian-made Audio amplifier was rolled out from Amarnaths workshop. It was a model bearing model number A 25 with a capacity of just 25 watts. On its dial, the ASE logo, which stands for Ahuja Sound Equipments, can be seen shining beautifully in the back light.
With this, Amarnath's name spread everywhere in mic operating establishments. A friend from Delhi has built his own amplifier. Instead of expensive foreign amplifiers that cost a lot of money to repair, Ahuja's amp is affordable with good sound quality  and can be repaired at low cost in case of breakdowns. The fame of Ahuja's amplifters were everywhere and lot of people came in need. Everyone needs an A 25.
With this, Amarnath stopped the mic operating company and stepped into the field of amplifier manufacturing. A company called Ahuja Radios was registered for this.
Ahuja amplifiers performed smoothly in snowy Kashmir, the scorching hot desert of Rajasthan and the incessant rain of Cherrapunji, where foreign-made sets failed under such extreme conditions.
The reputation of Ahuja amplifiers spread both at home and abroad. In 1952, amplifiers were first exported to Burma (now Myanmar).
Ahuja's first factory was started in 1958 at Okhla Industrial Estate in Delhi when the local shop manufacturing unit failed to complete the market demand. This huge factory with an area of 36000 square feet was inaugurated by the then Prime Minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru. In 1973, it started exporting amplifiers and accessories to developed countries like Germany, Switzerland, UK, Netherlands and Australia.
In 1985, Ahuja started exporting its products to America and Canada after receiving UL certification and CSA certification from the American safety standard, Underwriters Laboratory.Ahuja has become the first Indian electronics company to achieve these certifications and bring its products to the American market.
By 1992, they had earned the reputation of being the first Indian OEM company to manufacture amplifiers of the specified quality and branding for many world-renowned amplifier manufacturers. In 2005, Ahuja achieved the distinction of being the first Indian company to made the sale of twenty lakh power amplifiers.
In 2011, in competition with other foreign companies, India's only Formula One race course, the Buddh International Circuit in Delhi, was commissioned to install the most accurate communication equipment on the 5.125 km long track and pavilion.
In 2016, India's first intelligent paging communication system for metro railways was developed. This brought an end to the importation of this system, which had lost a large amount of foreign exchange till then. This system is being used in around 16 metros in India including Kochi Metro.
The advantage of this system is the facility of controlling announcements in all stations and trains from a single control room, limited manpower and more accuracy. In 2018, it became the first company in the world to sell 4 million power amplifiers.
In 2019, 24 crore people participated in the Maha Kumbh Mela held at Triveni Sangam in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh.
Ahuja Company holds an unrivaled world record for 55 days of uninterrupted sound deployment from a single control room through more than 25,000 speaker boxes using more than 5,000 amplifiers spread over an area of 56 square kilometers.Ahuja Company will be 83 years old in 2023. More than 400 products through 577 dealers in India, direct shipping to more than 50 countries in 5 continents, and retailing in more than 126 countries through online networks like Amazon and eBay. Ahuja has become a global brand.
The company's most powerful product is the 40 kg LXA 7600 amplifier in Class H configuration, which delivers 7600 watts in bridge mode at 2 E impedance.
The UB 30 is a 25 watt model that is the smallest that the company makes.
It weighs about 20 kg and has a magnetic weight of five and a half
The L 18-SW 1300 is an 18 inch subwoofer speaker that is the largest speaker manufactured by the company. It has a power of 1300 watts RMS. It can withstand up to 2600 watts intermittently. The company manufactures products in configurations ranging from Class AB to the new Class D and Class H.
Back in the days , the company launched a 12 volt battery operated cassette player with 10 watt amp called TP - 20DX at a low price for lottery sellers.
Named for its smooth sound, the SM-4040 was a heavy-duty stereo cassette player popular in the 1985s.Counter communication system CCS-2300 which can be fitted over and over the window to avoid direct conversation in today's covid era has achieved huge sales.
All 7083 stations of the Indian Railways are powered by Ahuja's amplifiers, which once switched on cannot be switched off. Many companies tried to enter this market, but after a month of continuous operation, their amps are  dissolved in smoke!.
Do you know that Ahuja amplifiers have been ringing the bank bells in the mosques of the Gulf countries for decades withstanding the harsh heat and sand winds?
Because if you see any sound products bearing the name Ahuja in the market, it will sell.
Ahuja amplifiers have the highest number of duplicates.
Amarnath Ahuja's policy was to benefit the buyer, so the company focused on sales as well as after-sales service from the very beginning.Sales were also helped by the fact that any local mechanic could repair out-of-warranty Ahuja amplifiers due to the longevity of one model.
Abbreviation of name Amar Nath Ahuja. Ahuja is reaching foreign markets under the brand name ANA.
Born in 1916, Ahuja Company founder Amarnath Ahuja passed away in 2007 at the age of 91.
The company is still thriving under the stewardship of his sons Sandeep Ahuja and Narendra Sen Ahuja.
Ahuja's pre-2000 sets are worth a lot among vintage collectors and audio enthusiasts. When hearing the name Ahuja, in the minds of some  new generation feel neglect and resentment . They think that Ahuja is nothing in the audio market. After reading this, I think it will make at least a little difference.#Ajith_kalamassery
